Brandon Drury Called Up to Reno

More from Diamondbacks Prospects

It’s a pretty minor move, but then again not necessarily minuscule. Brandon Drury was called up from AA-level Mobile to AAA-level Reno. With Drury being a member of the Dbacks 40-man roster, it’s still a significant transaction. Drury will be hitting in the #2 slot in the batting lineup for Reno on Tuesday night.

Drury was drafted in the 13th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves. He was part of the Justin Upton trade that also saw the Dbacks receive Nick Ahmed and Randall Delgado from Atlanta. In 2014, Drury split his season between Visalia (A) and Mobile (AA). That year he hit a combined .299 with 23 homers and 95 RBI. Most of those numbers came in Visalia.

In 2015 with Mobile, Drury was hitting .278 with 3 homers and 36 RBI in 67 games. The third-baseman scored 22 times and hit 14 doubles. Drury was selected to participate in the Southern League (AA) All Star Game, but was instead called up to the AAA club.

There he’ll join the likes of Danny Worth (.365, 4 HR, 22 RBI), Nick Evans (.303, 11 HR, 60 RBI) and Peter O’Brien (.297, 14 HR, 53 RBI) as Major League hopefuls. The 22-year old is regarded as one of the top prospects in the Dbacks organization. If the likes of Chad Pennington and Aaron Hill aren’t around in the next month, Drury could be an interesting look.
