Earlier this week, I posted that one of the Arizona Diamondbacks to watch this week was pitcher Allen Webster. It turns out we won’t be watching him in Arizona this weekend as he was optioned to Triple A Reno. In his place, the D’backs recalled relief pitcher Matt Stites, according to Jake Rill at mlb.com.

Webster enjoyed a solid debut on June 13th, getting the victory by tossing 5 2/3 innings of two run ball to beat the San Francisco Giants. In his three starts since then, it has been ugly, culminating in last night’s four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings outing. In four starts, Webster has thrown only 19 innings, allowing 15 earned runs on 18 hits, 14 walks with 12 strikeouts.
Stites has not pitched for Arizona in 2015 due to elbow inflammation that was discovered in Spring Training. He was sent to Reno on June 1st after pitching in two games for High Class A Visalia. Stites registered three saves for the Aces in nine appearances, allowing three earned runs in nine innings. Unfortunately, he also allowed eight walks to go along with six strikeouts.
