The date to watch out for is Friday, July 17th. That is the deadline for Swanson to sign with the D’back organization or else be put back into the draft pool for next year. Brady Aiken was the #1 overall pick in 2014 and he failed to sign with the Houston Astros. Despite undergoing Tommy John surgery in March, Aiken was still selected #17 overall by the Cleveland Indians. If Swanson fails to sign, that would mean the last two #1 Arizona picks (Swanson and Touki Toussaint) are not in the organization. That would be an embarrassment for the front office.
