Unless it’s Pedro Martinez dominating in 1999, it is hard for a pitcher to be recognized for an All-Star appearance. They work two innings at most and if they are noticed is is because they are truly great or truly horrible. Schilling was named the starting pitcher by Bob Brenly for the 2002 game and went the customary first two innings, the only blemish being a second frame single to future teammate Manny Ramirez. Other than that, Schilling struck out three batters during his appearance, throwing 24 strikes out of 28 total pitches. The only ball hit out of the infield was the Ramirez single and the other outs not recorded by strikeout were harmless ground balls hit to the right side.
