Is the 23-year old left-hander the best D’backs’ starting pitcher? In eight starts, his 2.16 ERA would seem to indicate that is the case. Ray, who gets the ball in Friday night’s opener, has allowed 0 earned runs in three of those outings. His control, a problem throughout his Minor League career even into 2015, has not been in issue in Arizona. In 50 innings, he has allowed only 12 walks while striking out 38. The only NL West opponent Ray has not faced is the Giants. His record is 3-4 with all of his defeats coming at the hands of division rivals, two vs. the Dodgers and two vs. the Padres.
