Diamondbacks News: Jarod Saltalamacchia Goes on the D.L.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia went on the 15 day disabled list yesterday with a strained left neck retro to July 12th as announced by General Manager Dave Stewart in an official press release.

Before going on the D.L, Salty was hitting .318 (7-22) with 3 doubles, an RBI, and 4 walks. He had just been finding a groove lately after struggling in the beginning of the season.

In 29 games with the Marlins and Dbacks before this recent run, he hit .167 (15-90) with just 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 5 RBI’s.

More from Venom Strikes

This will likely mean more playing time for rookie catcher Oscar Hernandez. Hernandez, 22, was a Rule 5 Draft pick and because of that he has to stay on the 25 man roster for the remainder of the season. Since being called up on July 4th, he has gotten in a game once as a pinch runner.

Hernandez has only played 8 games above A-Ball, and it will take him a while to get used to the Diamondbacks pitching staff especially when there is a runner at 2nd and the pitcher and catcher have to go through a series of signs.
