The trading deadline is roughly two days away with deals being made quickly and rumors spreading even quicker. The latest one involving the Arizona Diamondbacks comes from Chris Cotillo at mlbdailydish.com. This is his tweet about the D’backs’ involvement with Philadelphia Phillies’ pitcher Cole Hamels:

The San Francisco Giants were also supposedly heavy for Hamels but it appears something has changed:

When you consider David Price, the other star pitcher that is rumored to be available, you would have to figure that two contenders are going end up with these two pitchers. As of today, it seems that a new front has opened up regarding Price:

Will the losers of the bidding for Price end up with Hamels? Does Detroit take a chance, keep Price and try to get into the playoffs? I don’t know about you but I have this sneaking suspicion that the D’backs are going to figure into one of these guys, either Hamels now or Price in the offseason.  My preference: save the prospects and take a run at Price in the Winter. Wasn’t that the reason why Touki Toussaint was traded in the first place?
