Game 1: RHP Zack Godley (2-0 2.25 ERA) vs. RHP Doug Fister (4-6 4.39 ERA) 4:05 P.M. MST
Zack Godley could very well be making his last start in a Diamondbacks uniform for the 2015 season. Chase Anderson started yesterday for the rookie league Diamondbacks, and will likely be called up and join the team this weekend against the Reds.
Godley has made his case to stay at the major league level. He is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and has allowed just 3 runs lasting 6 innings in his first 2 big league starts.
Godley, who was acquired from the Cubs in the Miguel Montero deal has given the Dbacks consistent starting pitching. He will need to throw more strikes today.
Godley features a sinking fastball which he throws 31.9% of the time at 91.9 mph. He will generate a lot of ground balls (54%). Godley also features a cutter, changeup, and a curveball.
Doug Fister will take the ball for the Nationals, and he hasn’t had a good year for the Nats. Fister earned his first win since June in his last outing and overall he has a 4.39 ERA. He pitches a lot better at home (3.80 ERA), compared to on the road (5.06).
Fister features a fastball, slider, curveball, and a changeup. He will generate a lot of ground balls thanks to the downward action on his fastball. He has given up 9 home runs.
Fister has made 1 career start against the Dbacks and he has a 1.29 ERA. Wellington Castillo is hitting .333 off Fister for his career with 1 RBI, Aaron Hill is at .286 with 1 HR.
