July Starting Pitcher of the Month: Jeremy Hellickson
RHP Jeremy Hellickson had by far his best month in July, and he actually looked like the pitcher that won the A.L. Rookie of the Year with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011.
That is why Hellickson is the Venom Strikes Starting Pitcher of the Month.
This is what he did in July:
24.0 IP, 1.88 ERA, 18 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 22 K, .200 AVG, .250 OBP, .289 SLG, .236 wOBA.
Compare that to the previous month and it was a huge improvement. In 27.0 IP in June, he had a 6.00 ERA. In the first half in 94.2 IP, he had a 5.04 ERA.
Hellickson flat out got the job done in July, and there wasn’t much to criticize which you couldn’t say for the rest of the season.
In high leverage situations, opponents just hit .086, and with runners in scoring position opponents hit .203. He allowed just 1 HR in the month.
Congrats Jeremy!
