Checking In On the Dbacks Top 5 Prospects: Dansby Swanson Debuts

No. 5 Prospect: Alex Young-LHP
Alex Young, the Diamondbacks 2nd round pick out of TCU in this year’s draft has already had a lot of sucess in his professional career.
Playing for Class A Short Season Hillsboro, Young has made 2 apperances for the Hops saving last night’s victory when he struck out the side in the 9th.
Young has also made 1 start and has pitched a total of 2.0 innings allowing 1 hit and no runs. Opposing batters are hitting .143.
Despite the small sample size, this ranking is my belief that he has more upside than Yoan Lopez or Wei-Chien-Huang.
Young has a fastball that will touch 93 mph, but his best pitch is his breaking ball which can move in multiple directions. It has a slider feel.
He is trying to develop a changeup, and that suggests he could be in the Dbacks rotation in the future.
We probably wont see Young for several years depending on how fast he develops.
