Game 2: LHP Patrick Corbin (2-3 4.08 ERA) vs. RHP Mike Foltynewicz (4-3 5.23 ERA)
Its always fun when Patrick Corbin is on the mound, and hopefully he can deliver an ace like performance when he takes the mound in-game 2 against the Braves.
Corbin pitched well in his last start giving up three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings against the Reds striking out five and walking one, but he wasn’t rewarded for his performance getting a no-decision.
Corbin loves pitching against the Braves. In 2 career starts against Atlanta, he hasn’t given up a run in 10 innings, and he has one win.
The key for Corbin is the ability to keep the ball in the park which has hurt him since he has come off the D.L., and if his slider is working down and in particularly to right-handed batters it is hard to beat him.
Former Cub Mike Foltynewicz has struggled this season. His 5.23 ERA in 72.1 innings pitched isn’t acceptable, and in his last 7 games he is 1-1 with a 6.20 ERA. Opponents are hitting .307 against him this season.
However, he is coming off one of his best starts of the season, allowing just two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings vs. the Marlins earning his first win since May 24th.
On June 3rd, he made his first career start against the Dbacks and lost, giving up four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.
