Game 1: LHP Patrick Corbin (3-3 3.43 ERA) vs. RHP John Lamb (0-1 7.50 ERA) 4:10 P.M.
As Tom Lynch wrote in his five players to watch column earlier today, Patrick Corbin has to go at least seven innings tonight. Their is no getting around that. He is the key to this game.
In his last start against the Braves on August 15th, Corbin looked the ace we saw in the 2013 season when he was a rookie.
Corbin gave up no runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking just three. He induced 10 ground ball outs, and used his slider effectively.
Over his past 5 starts he is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA and a 2.96 FIP in 27.0 innings pitched.
Corbin faced the Reds earlier this month at Chase Field earning the win. In six innings he allowed three runs and seven hits earning the win striking out five and walking one.
John Lamb will be making his 2nd career major league start, and of course he has never faced the D-backs.
Lamb made his major league debut last Friday against the Dodgers. A four run fourth inning derailed his start in a 5-3 loss. He finished with six innings pitched allowing five earned runs and eight hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Lamb features a fastball, cutter, curveball, and a changeup.
