The Arizona Diamondbacks took advantage of the expanded rosters by calling up three players from Triple A Reno. Pitchers Enrique Burgos and Matt Stites make their return to the Majors while coming up for the first time is infielder Brandon Drury. The D-backs are wasting no time with Drury as he is in the lineup for today’s first game vs. the Colorado Rockies.

More from Venom Strikes

Burgos began the year at Double A Mobile before being called up to Arizona on April 29th. He appeared in 22 games and registered two saves with 32 strikeouts in 21 innings. Unfortunately, Burgos walked 11 and allowed 22 hits, compiling a 5.14 ERA before being sent to Reno toward the end of July. This marks Stites’ third stint with the Snakes in 2015, having been first summoned at the end of June. He pitched in four games, giving up a run in 2 1/3 innings. Stites appeared in 37 games for the team in 2014 to the tune of a 5.37 ERA.

Clearly, the most anticipated player out of the three is Drury, who is the organization’s #7 prospect according to mlb.com. He started the year in Mobile before being promoted to Reno in the middle of the season. He has hit very well in Pacific Coast League action with a .331 batting average and an on-base percentage of .384. He has played every infield position except first base throughout his Minor League career, the kind of versatility teams love.

Stay tuned throughout the week for any additional promotions.
