Ten days ago, he was having a season for the ages with an ERA of under 1.50. Today, Ziegler is battling fatigue, an ankle issue and inflated ERA. Ziegler hasn’t pitched in a week, a game in which he blew his second save and lifted is ERA to nearly 2.50. It was about this time last year that the D-backs’ super reliever was shut down due to a knee problem which later needed microfracture surgery. With the Snakes out of playoff contention, there is no need to push Ziggy if he is not 100%. Save him for next year when he can hopefully go back to his accustomed set up role.
