Diamondbacks’ Jeremy Hellickson to Start on Monday

The Arizona Diamondbacks confirmed that Jeremy Hellickson would be making his return on Monday according to Steve Gilbert at mlb.com. The D-backs begin a series that evening at Chase Field against the San Diego Padres. It marks the first appearance on a Major League mound since August 17th. During his start that evening vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates, hamstring and groin issues cropped up resulting in a trip to the disabled list.

The 28-year old right-hander made one rehab start at Triple A Reno giving up three earned runs in six innings of work. For the season, Hellickson has made 23 starts for the Snakes, going 9-8 with a 4.60 ERA. In 129 innings, he has allowed 134 hits and 37 walks while striking out 107.  Opponents are hitting .263 off him. Hellickson’s best D-backs’ outing came right before he got hurt as he hurled eight innings on August 11th, allowing an unearned run and no walks while fanning six. Arizona defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 13-1.

On Tuesday, Jhoulys Chacin will be making his third start for the D-backs. He has impressed in two previous outings, allowing four runs in 13 1/3 innings. Chacin will be auditioning for a spot in next year’s rotation.
