In my opinion, the battle to be in the 2016 rotation is going on right now. Ray gets the ball in the opening game of the series against the Rockies, a team against whom he has enjoyed success. Ray made his D-backs’ debut at Coors Field on May 6th, allowing only one run on five hits in six innings of work. He again pitched in Colorado on August 31st, getting a no-decision despite allowing only one run over 5 2/3 innings. The lefty had one of his best outings of the season in his last start, blanking the Dodgers on three hits and two walks over six innings. Now would be a good time for Ray to pitch into the eighth inning, something he has not done all year. That would build some momentum going into Spring Training.
