Butcher, himself a former Major League pitcher, was 11-4 in 117 games with the Angels from 1992 through 1995. He took over for Bud Black in Los Angeles before the 2007 season when the latter was named the manager of the San Diego Padres. During his first six years with the Angels, the team’s pitching staff finished in the top five in the American League in ERA. The 50-year old Butcher was let go by the organization along with hitting coach (and former D-backs’ coach) Don Baylor shown the door as well.
We wish Mike Butcher the best of luck and hope he does great things with the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff.
