Arizona Diamondbacks’ Rotation With Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller is the Best in the West

Los Angeles Dodgers
This is quite possibly the biggest drop in quality. The Dodgers had Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, arguably the best 1-2 punch in baseball. Plus they got a rejuvenated Brett Anderson. Although they lost Hyun-jin Ryu for the season, he was clearly their third best starter and will most likely return to form after his injury. As for their number four and five pitchers, the Dodgers tried almost everyone they could get their hands on throughout the season, eventually settling on Mike Bolsinger and a combination of Alex Wood, Carlos Frias, and Mat Latos (Wood and Latos were brought over in trades).

This off-season, the Dodgers have only lost from the rotation. They lost Greinke to the Diamondbacks but they will be getting Ryu back. They retained Anderson. They have Brandon McCarthy as an option. Here is what their rotation looks like for next season: Kershaw, Ryu, Anderson, Wood, Bolsinger, with McCarthy being able to fill in for whomever gets hurt.
That’s a significant drop in quality. Losing a Cy Young candidate with no plan to replace him is going to affect you as much, or more than almost any other move you can make.
