Pitching Matchups:

Friday: Zack Greinke (0-2, 9.90 ERA) vs. James Shields (0-2, 4.85 ERA)

Saturday: Shelby Miller (0-1, 8.18 ERA) vs. Andrew Cashner (0-1, 8.00 ERA)

Sunday: TBD vs. Robbie Erlin (1-1, 0.93 ERA)

Greinke has allowed 11 earned runs through his first two outings in only 10 innings, the worst start to a season in his major league career. Clearly, the team expects more from him. Padres center fielder Jon Jay has put up solid numbers against Greinke, hitting .320 (8-for-25) in his career.

James Shields will start on the mound for the Padres on Friday. He’s had moderate success against the Diamondbacks, and went 2-2 against Arizona last year. His first start versus the Diamondbacks will be a telling one, and it could very well set the tone for the rest of the series.

Shelby Miller has been able to shut down the Padres’ lineup throughout his career, holding the batters he’s faced to 5-for-34 (.147). This kind of consistency will be key for the Diamondbacks as they look for a rebound.
