Diamondbacks series preview: Weekend stint against the Padres

Players to Watch:
As always, Paul Goldschmidt will be the highlight of Arizona’s lineup. Though he’s off to a sluggish start, batting .216 through the first ten games of the season, he already has three homers and nine RBI. His best day might come against Shields, against whom he’s 4-for-8 with a home run and a double in his career. Slightly better than Goldy, though, is David Peralta. The third-year leftfielder is also 4-for-8 against Shields with two homers in his young career. Look for those two to have solid outings throughout the weekend.
Matt Kemp, the Padres’ star rightfielder, will be a force to be reckoned with in this series. He leads his team in most hitting categories, including home runs (3), RBI (10), hits (11) and batting average (.297). He’s had a couple of monstrous outings so far, notably against the Rockies, when he had seven hits, three homers and ten RBI over the span of two games. Be on the watch for Melvin Upton, Jr. as well. The speedy outfielder is off to a solid start (.267/.333/.400) and will be looking to come back from a 2015 season where he only played 87 games.
