Tale of the Tape:

Record: Padres (19-29), Diamondbacks (21-28)

Offense: Padres (.221/.280/.350, 13th in NL in runs), Diamondbacks (.270/.330/.444, 5th in NL in runs)

Pitching: Padres (3.92 ERA), Diamondbacks (4.67 ERA)

There is no question that Arizona’s offense has been superior to the Padres. However, The Padres’ pitching staff, led by Drew Pomeranz, has been a pleasant surprise thus far this season. Without making the big splashes that the Diamondbacks did this offseason, the Padres staff as a whole has put up the eighth-best ERA in the National League, beating out two 2015 playoff teams in the Pirates and Cardinals.
