Arizona Diamondbacks: Two takeways from sloppy 4-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants

Sloppy Defense
Even teams with winning records can improve in one area or another. In other words, every team has a glaring weakness.
For the Arizona Diamondbacks, defense has been an issue; in fact, it might as well have cost them a win on Monday in San Francisco. Committing two errors on a chopper back to the mound from the pitcher is rare, and manager Torey Lovullo would likely say that is inexcusable.
Arizona committed three errors in a win over the Indians on Sunday, meaning they committed five combining Sunday and Monday. This kind of play is unacceptable, especially when the Diamondbacks have the guys to play great defense. Yasmany Tomas has always been a question mark in left field, but Tomas has not committed an error.
Diamondbacks’ defenders have already made nine errors, the most in the majors. The Diamondbacks 69 percent defensive efficiency rating is below the major league average.
The defense has allowed five unearned runs to cross home plate, one of the highest marks in baseball.
