After 14 games against playoff teams from last season, the Arizona Diamondbacks are 9-5 through the opening two weeks.

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost two of three to the San Francisco Giants and the first two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

First, Taijuan Walker turned in a valiant effort on Easter Sunday and got the Snakes back in the win column. Then, Jake Lamb snapped a 2-2 and the Diamondbacks added an insurance run in the ninth for a 4-2 victory Monday night in the finale of a four-game set at Dodger Stadium.

Plenty of players have started 2017 on the right foot and others need to step up if the Diamondbacks are going to sustain a great start.

Remember, Arizona has a chance to distance themselves from the rest of the National League West division. If they can sustain this pace, Diamondbacks’ fans should feel good about their team’s chances to remain relevant in August and September.

With two weeks complete, it is time to hand out some hardware. Venom Strikes picks one player for each of the following categories:

Most Valuable Position Player

Most Valuable Starting Pitcher

Most Valuable Reliever

Least Valuable Position Player

Least Valuable Starting Pitcher

Least Valuable Reliever

We will also pick runner ups for each award. If you disagree with any of our choices, feel free to write about it in the comments section below.
