Pitching Probables

Friday: RHP Zack Greinke (2-2, 3.19 ERA) vs. RHP German Marquez (0-1, 7.20 ERA)

Saturday: LHP Patrick Corbin (2-3, 2.29 ERA) vs. LHP Tyler Anderson (1-3, 7.71 ERA)

Sunday: RHP Taijuan Walker (3-1, 4.19 ERA) vs. RHP Tyler Chatwood (2-4, 5.40 ERA)

Zack Greinke has pitched more like an ace in 2017. Now in his second season with the Diamondbacks, the right-hander has allowed 3 runs or less in five of his 6 starts. Greinke faced the Rockies in his last start on April 29. The three-time Rawlings Gold Glove award winner gave up three earned runs in six innings but did not factor into the decision.

The current Rockies roster owns a .263 average against Greinke. In eight career games (seven starts) at Coors Field, he is 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA (21 ER/44.1 IP). Trevor Story has owned Greinke. In 12 career at-bats, the Rockies’ shortstop is hitting .417 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

German Marquez tossed six scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks last Sunday at Chase. Hitters had trouble with the right-hander’s curveball, which he used to strike out four. Goldschmidt and David Peralta had success against Marquez. In his only home outing this season, the Venezuelan native gave up eight earned runs and lasted four innings.

Corbin mowed down the Rockies lineup last Sunday. The left-hander did not allow a run in six and one-third innings and struck out six. In six career starts at Coors Field, Corbin is 2-1 with a 6.69 ERA.

Anderson was originally supposed to toe the rubber Friday, but Marquez’s start was moved up. The Diamondbacks hit three home runs off Anderson. The southpaw has been tagged for nine home runs in 30 and one-third innings this season. Nine runs have crossed the plate in Anderson’s two home starts.

Taijuan Walker issued five free passes to Washington Nationals’ hitters Tuesday. Walker will make his first start of 2017 against the Rockies. Colorado is a great fastball hitting team. But if Walker can locate his rising four-seamer, he could neutralize the power bats. Ian Desmond is 4-for-8 career off Walker with a home run and one RBI.

Tyler Chatwood made four starts against Arizona last season. The groundball pitcher gave up 12 runs (11 earned) in two starts at Coors Field but only two runs (one earned) in two starts at Chase Field.
