The Rotation’s Lack of Control
Each of the Diamondbacks starters had had more than one bad day in August. The team is losing games early, giving up 35 runs in the first three innings of the last 15 games.
In the first half, the Diamondbacks had only allowed 31 percent of earned runs in the first three innings. In the last 15 games, that percentage is up to 44 percent.
The starting pitchers are struggling to get batters out. While they are throwing strikes 70 percent of the time, a lot of them are left over the plate and result in hits/runs.
