Game 2: Hyun-Jin Ryu vs. Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray is back! The lefty looked great in a five-inning win against the New York Mets in his last start. In 94 pitches, Ray struck out nine batters and only allowed one earned run on two hits.
He will face Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is on a streak of his own, but holds a higher ERA (3.34 ERA) with significantly less strikeouts (100 K). Ray has a 3.06 ERA and 160 strikeouts.
However, in Ryu’s last nine outings, he is 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 49 strikeouts. But, that also leaves a lot of no-decisions. The Dodgers offense would need to overshadow Ray’s performance, which they have struggled to do in previous starts this season.
Ray has pitched against the Dodgers three times this season, earning a 1-0 record with two no-decisions. He has pitched 17.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 17 hits, but striking out 29 Dodgers batters. The one significant performance against Ray is Enrique Hernandez, who is batting .350 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI in 20 at-bats.
But, Ryu will have to battle Paul Goldschmidt who is batting .421 against him with one home run and 5 RBI.
This game has all of the makings of pitching duel.
