Game 3: Kenta Maeda vs. Zack Greinke

Zack Greinke will face his former team once again. A win would give Greinke 16 total, pushing him ahead of the Brewers Zach Davies and the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw for most wins in 2017. Greinke has yet to beat the Dodgers this season after taking losses in April and early August.

He will face Kenta Maeda, who is coming off a season-best start against the Brewers. Maeda owns a 3.76 ERA and 118 strikeouts to Greinke’s 3.14 ERA and 182 strikeouts.

Jake Lamb has previously batted well against Maeda. Lamb has a .409 batting average against him including two home runs and six RBI in 22 at-bats.

Despite his hot start and very hot May, Lamb has been unusually quiet. Lamb is 2-for-19 in his last five games, only picking up a single, a double, three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Facing Maeda could bring back Lamb’s offense.

The Diamondbacks will need all the help they can get to maintain their two-game lead over the Colorado Rockies in the NL Wild Card race. While the team faces the Dodgers, the Rockies will be in Denver facing the Detroit Tigers.

Coors Field will host the Diamondbacks and Rockies in a three-game series to start September and likely preview October for both teams. However, if the Diamondbacks prove successful against the Dodgers and the Rockies, the Brewers could take the second Wild Card spot.
