Game One: Patrick Corbin vs. Jordan Lyles
Patrick Corbin has looked more and more like an ace in his last several starts. Despite having a 6-9 record in the first half of the season, Corbin has a 7-2 record in the second half. He is 5-0 in his last five appearances with a 0.50 ERA.
Corbin has also performed better at home this year. He has an 8-3 record at Chase Field, while earning a 5-8 record on the road where his ERA is twice as high.
That’s unfortunate for Padres pitcher Jordan Lyles. Lyles just joined the Padres, coming over from the Rockies where he was a relief pitcher.
As a starter for the Padres, Lyles pitched 4.1 innings against the Dodgers in his San Diego debut. He has struggled at Chase Field in his career with a 9.38 ERA. Facing the Diamondbacks hot offense will probably not help the right-hander.
The biggest question for the Diamondbacks is the seriousness of Paul Goldschmidt’s sore elbow. Preferably, the question will be when Goldschmidt returns and not if he returns.
