Game 1: Zack Greinke (16-6, 3.01 ERA) vs. Kyle Freeland (11-10, 3.99 ERA)
The Diamondbacks have to like their chances of winning the series opener. Right hander Zack Greinke is 13-1 with a 2.31 ERA and a .197 opponents batting average in 16 starts at Chase Field.
A victory tonight would match Randy Johnson for the most wins at home in a single season (14). Greinke is tied for the major league lead in wins.
Since June 1, Greinke is 10-3 with a 2.86 ERA and he has won eight of his past 10 starts.
In addition, Greinke pitched well on the road, which has not always happened, in his last start at Dodger Stadium. The D-backs’ ace went seven innings and the only blemish was a solo home run from Yasmani Grandal.
Greinke is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in four starts against the Rockies in 2017. Watch out for Trevor Story and Mark Reynolds, who each have four career home runs off Greinke, the most among active players.
Freeland is 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA over his last five starts. The rookie completed just 3.1 innings in his last start and gave up seven hits and five runs (three earned) against the San Francisco Giants last Wednesday.
The Denver native has a 4.39 ERA in 12 road outings this season.
Freeland is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 10.0 innings against Arizona. In his most recent start, Sept. 1 at Coors Field, the right hander gave up three runs on five hits in four innings. In five at-bats against Freeland, A.J. Pollock is hitting .600 with an RBI.
