Game 3: Patrick Corbin (13-12, 4.16 ERA) vs. German Marquez (10-6, 4.27 ERA)
Both of the scheduled starters for game three struggled in their last outing.
To almost everybody’s surprise, Corbin gave up eight runs and 11 hits in just 4.1 innings against the Padres on Friday. That performance was easily his worst outing of the second half, but the southpaw went 4-2 with a 2.52 ERA in August.
Corbin needs to silence the doubters and prove he can succeed in a potential divisional playoff series against the Dodgers. Not to take anything away from his great run, but Corbin has been largely inconsistent this season.
In 16 career games (15 starts) against Colorado, Corbin is 6-3 with a 5.02 ERA. In three starts this season, the lefty is 1-1 with a 5.17 ERA in just 15.3 innings.
In 26 career at-bats, Blackmon is hitting .346 and LeMathieu is a .382 career hitter in 34 at-bats off Corbin.
German Marquez would be the likely choice for the Rockies if they play Arizona in the Wild Card game at Chase Field. The right-hander owns a 2.31 ERA across two starts at Chase Field in 2017. In 13 road outings, he owns a 3.90 ERA. But he gave up four runs (two earned) in four innings at Chavez Ravine last Friday.
Lamb owns a .313 average off Marquez in 16 career at-bats. Brandon Drury is hitting just .188 off the righty, but he has a home run and three RBI’s.
