LOS ANGELES, CA – SEPTEMBER 26: Yasmani Grandal
LOS ANGELES, CA – SEPTEMBER 26: Yasmani Grandal

LAD: Yasmani Grandal (2.2 bWAR) and Austin Barnes (2.6 bWAR)

ARI: Chris Iannetta (1.8 bWAR) and Jeff Mathis (-0.6 bWAR)

The Dodgers have a pair of catchers that are dangerous at the plate.

Grandal only hit .247 in the regular season, but he also knocked 22 balls out of the park.

Barnes has been getting more and more playing time because of his bat. In 102 games, he recorded the fifth-highest batting average among Dodger hitters with a .408 on base percentage.

Grandal’s defense is superior. He ranks second in terms pitch framing among all major league catchers.

Iannetta has come through in the clutch and is an on base machine against lefties. He has done well behind the plate but is nowhere near Grandal.

Mathis’ bWAR does not do enough justice for how good his defense is. I think this position is closer than WAR suggests.

Edge: Dodgers
