Zack Greinke against his former team
Greinke did not exactly earn his $200 million-plus contract the Diamondbacks gave him before the 2016 season in the Wild Card game.
The Diamondbacks ace started the game and looked ready to cruise after the first three innings. But he could not get out of the fourth. Greinke’s stuff started to flatten and he left too many pitches in the middle of the plate.
Greinke has to redeem himself. Look, I understand Greinke had a great season and earned the team’s confidence after a disastrous 2016, but big time pitchers earn their money in big time games.
Greinke went 1-2 with a 3.65 ERA against the Dodgers this season. The way Lovullo lined up his rotation should work perfectly, at least on paper. Since coming to Arizona as a free agent, Greinke has struggled in Los Angeles but turned in a good outing at Chase Field earlier this season.
