Gonzo’s Retirement Game Ends on High Note

Chris Young.  He’s the man.

The man who is in the running for the comeback player of the year started the game with a homer and ended the game with a walk-off homer to help the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the San Diego Padres 6-5 on Saturday night in Luis Gonzalez’s number retirement game. Gonzo’s number 20 was retired.

The D’backs HAD to win this one for Gonzo.  Young made sure of that, but not without some doubt.  The D’backs roared to a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning, however, nursed a 5-3 lead going into the ninth.  Aaron Heilman though made sure this would go the full nin tonight, giving up solo home runs to Jerry Hairston and Adrian Gonzalez in the top of the ninth.  I predicted Gonzalez’s shot.  Too predictable.  He hit his 18th career homer off Dbacks pitching in the ninth, his 13th at Chase Field.

In the end though, it was a win and that’s all that counts.  Oh, and taco’s too!
