Cody Ransom is Pushing Ryan Roberts at Third Base

Cody Ransom was a quiet call up this past week by the D-Backs.  He sure is making noise in his brief opportunity.

If you haven’t noticed, Ransom has started the last four games over struggling Ryan Roberts and has done an excellent job.  After expecting to be a key contritor, the fan favorite Roberts has had a nightmarish start to 2011–hitting just .182 with 1 home run.  He’s 1 for his last 17 and has just one multi-hit game this season.  Ranson meanwhile is 5 for 13 with 3 RBI in his four starts.

Ransom–who didn’t figure into the D-Backs plans much this spring–has 337 career at-bats before this season between time with the Giants, Astros, Yankees, Phillies and last season with the D-Backs.  Despite his journeyman resume, Ransom has never had more than 79 at-bats in a single season.  If he continues to take advantage of his current opportunity–and Roberts continues to slumpe–he might just shatter that number.
