3 Arizona Diamondback Minor League Teams Playing for Championships

Well, the odds are long that the big club will be playing for a championship.  But at least there will be some members of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization that will be playing for titles over the next ten days.  Reno  (Triple A), Mobile  (Double A) and Missoula  (Single A, Pioneer League) are all playing for their respective league championships.  That is a testament to the excellent work the scouting and development areas that should leave the club in good hands for the long-term future.

Reno is tied 1-1 so far in its best-of-five series with Omaha, the top affiliate of the Royals.  Reno won the first game big 13-1 as top prospect Trevor Bauer  gave up a single run even though he was wild, walking 5 in 6 2/3 innings.  Omaha evened the series last night with a 9-6 victory and now the series shifts to Omaha where Game Three will be played tonight.  As for Mobile, the opposite scenario has played out during their first two games with Jackson, the AA affiliate of the Mariners.  Jackson took Game 1 by a score of 8-1 with Mobile evening the score last night by a count of 7-2.  The best-of-five series now moves to Mobile where the third game will be played tonight.  Missoula got their series off on the right note by defeating the Dodgers‘ affiliate Ogden, 4-3. This series is a best-of-three with the Missoula victory at home Tuesday and resuming tonight at Ogden and if necessary also at Ogden on Friday.

I can’t say for sure if this true but I would have to imagine that it is very rare for an organization to have three affiliates that are playing for their league titles.  Even harder to believe is that both AA and AAA squads are fighting for championships.  Mind you, this is being done without guys like Adam Eaton and Tyler Skaggs already in Arizona.  How does mlb.com have the D-Backs’ farm system ranked at #3?  With three possible championships, they will have to do another ranking and put them rightfully at #1.
