Arizona Diamondbacks 2012: A Look at First Base

facebooktwitterreddit

With the 2012 season just about 2 1/2 months from kicking off with pitchers and catchers, it is time to take a look at how the Arizona Diamondbacks stack up by position.  Next up, a look at first base, which is pretty much sewn up.  All that is needed now is to determine the backup.

Starter: Paul Goldschmidt

Backup: Geoff Blum, TBA

First base has been quite a journey for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  They thought finally last year they had found their first baseman of the future in Juan Miranda.  He was a bust and sent back to the minors.  I’m not sure they’ve totally given up on Miranda, but let’s just say there will be mostly Goldschmidt time in Arizona this season.

Goldschmidt came in like gang busters as we all know.  He had huge hits, including the game winning triple to clinch the division title and a grand slam in the NLDS.  Oh, and he has a nice glove too.  Eventually he will cut down on the strikeouts, however with his good batting average, power, and glove, the Dbacks can afford to be patient.
