Tyler Bauer and Patrick Corbin are Intertwined Again Tonight

Patrick Corbin might be getting his final shot at holding onto the rotation spot vacated by the injured Daniel Hudson tonight.  While it’s only his third start of the season–he’s had one good, one bad start–Corbin can’t help but be looking over his shoulder at D-Backs top prospect Trevor Bauer.

While biding his time for a rotation spot to open up, Bauer is mowing down Double-A hitters to the tune of a 6-1 record and a 1.96 ERA.  Bauer and Corbin were thought to be two guys who could have supplanted Josh Collmenter during Spring Training, however Collmenter kept his rotation spot for a few weeks into the season before eventually losing it.  When Kirk Gibson stated that Collmenter would move to the bullpen and a starter would be called up a few weeks ago, speculation began on who it would be.  It turned out to be Corbin.

Tonight is a very unique time as Corbin and Bauer are again on stage at the same time.  Bauer gets the start for Double-A Mobile while Corbin starts for the D-Backs.  Corbin might be on a short leash as the Diamondbacks are certainly anxious to see what Bauer can do at the major leagu level.  A less than spectacular start by Corbin might result on a trip back to Mobile for him and a first class ticket to Arizona for Bauer.
