The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Arizona went into Game 3 down in the series 0-2. Arizona was able to avoid the sweep by winning Game 3 in extra innings thanks to Willie Bloomquist’s walk-off single. Of course, finishing the series 1-2 is not good, especially at home.
The 1-2 series finish has unfortunately become all to common for the Diamondbacks lately. Since the All-Star break, the Snakes have played a total of ten three-game series. Although the D-Backs have avoided getting swept in all ten series, they have nonetheless lost seven of these series. This simply is not going to cut it for a team that once had a decent shot at making the playoffs.
I would like to be optimistic, but the playoffs is highly unlikely at this point. Arizona needs to really buckle down and figure out what is going to work for long-term success.
What we learned:
Key to Diamondbacks Victory – send the game into extra innings. Interestingly, the D-Backs have lately piled on to the loss column, except when the game goes into extra innings.
