The Diamondbacks got their first shutout win of 2014 behind a brilliant start from Bronson Arroyo. Now the line needs to keep moving starting tonight with Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy is seeking his first victory of the season and will try to secure a rare feat for this team this season: a series victory. McCarthy is 0-5 this season and frankly has been really unlucky this year. McCarthy was throwing well in spring training and was primed for a big season. It hasn’t quite been like that for McCarthy so far this season. The key for McCarthy is to pitch a complete game. McCarthy starts out well in most of his starts but gets behind in counts when facing the lineup for the second and third time, and by the fifth or sixth inning he is behind and in trouble. In his last start McCarthy did his job but the offense didn’t support him. Here is to hoping McCarthy can get his first win and secure a series win for this team. Here is the need to know info for game 2:

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KTAR-FM (98.7)

Matchup: RHP Brandon McCarthy vs. RHP Ian Kennedy

Need to Know: Kennedy the Diamondbacks opening day starter last season is thriving in San Diego…In 2011 the year the Dbacks won the N.L West Kennedy won 20 games contending for the CY Young Award…However after a bad 2012, the Snakes traded him away…Kennedy was dealing the last time out, throwing a season-high 117 pitches, allowing one run over seven innings in a victory over the Nationals. He struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter in one of the best starts for the team this season…Kennedy is 2-3 with a 3.16 era this season…In 11.1 innings pitched against his former team, Kennedy is 1-0 with a 6.35 era…McCarthy deserved a better fate in his last start throwing seven innings but he took the loss…In 20 innings pitched against the Padres he is 2-1 with a 2.25 era…If there is any team for McCarthy to get a win against its San Diego who only average a little over two runs per game.
