The deal will send SS Didi Gregorius to the Yankees, Shane Greene to the Tigers, and left-hander Robbie Ray, and another undisclosed starting pitcher to the Dbacks.
The Diamondbacks, Tigers, and Yankees completed a three team trade back in December of 2009.
That deal sent Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson to Arizona, Max Scherzer, and Daniel Schlereth to the Tigers, Yankees prospect Austin Jackson, and lefty reliever Phil Coke to Detroit, and Curtis Granderson to the Yankees.
Gregorius was supposed to be the shortstop of the future for the Snakes. He was acquired in another three team trade from the Reds that sent Trevor Bauer to the Indians.
Gregorius didn’t play well in 2014 hitting .226 with 6 HR’s and a .653 OPS in 80 games at age 24, and the Dbacks have plenty of depth in the middle infield practically at SS. However, the Yankees are getting back a very good defender.
Ray was ranked as the no.2 prospect in the Tigers system by MLB.com. He pitched in the majors last season, beating the Astros in his first big league start on May 6th, and then shutting out the Twins for six innings in his second. He projects as a middle of the rotation starter with a ton of upside.
Many will wonder why the Diamondbacks didn’t get someone in the current Tigers starting rotation, but the majority of those guys are going to be free agents next season, and Dbacks G.M. Dave Stewart wants cost controllable starters that are young.
VenomStrikes will have plenty of reaction to this trade soon, but for now what do you think of the trade Dbacks fans?
