Ever wonder who are the voices during the Diamondbacks games?

If you have, you’re not alone. There are plenty of people who announce Diamondbacks games, either on TV or Radio. There’s also pre- and post- game shows where there’s even more announcers. In this article, I’ll be sharing who each set of announcers are regarding television, radio, Spanish-Language broadcasters, and the in-ballpark announcers.

First up, let’s start with the TV guys who are on Bally Sports Arizona. This duo has been announcing since 2014 or so and have hardly missed a game. That duo is:

Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly

Steve Berthiaume: A former host of SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight, announcer of the College World Series games, and a multitude of other events came to announce the Diamondbacks in 2013. He replaced Darren Sutton. Steve is the play-by-play announcer for every Dbacks game on Bally Sports Arizona. He’s known for giving players their nickname, loving baseball, and providing a rather friendly/upbeat voice to the games. Originally from Boston,  he’s adapted rather well to the Desert Heat. He hosts a number of shows on Bally Sports Arizona, including his namesake show “Cup of Coffee with Steve Berthiaume”. On this show, he’s interviewed countless Diamondbacks players, executives, and others related to the team. Steve’s given the organization stability at the TV play-by-play announcing position as he’s the longest tenured in team history.

Bob Brenly: Bob has been with the team since the beginning minus a few years. He was the team’s first ever color analyst back in 1998 when the first Diamondbacks game was played. Bob then became the team’s manager in 2001. He won the World Series with the team that year. He stayed on as manager until mid-2004 season. Upon losing his managerial gig, he soon caught on with the Cubs to be their color analyst. He remained with them until the Diamondbacks got him to come back in 2013 to serve as the Color Analyst with Steve. He’s remained in that role ever since. In 2018, Brenly was named to the 20th Anniversary Team being voted as the best Manager the Diamondbacks have ever had. Bob’s still going strong and should be with the team a while longer.

The Legendary “Governor” & More of Diamondbacks Radio Broadcasting

Greg Schulte: Greg has been announcing Diamondbacks games via the radio as the play-by-play person since the very first Diamondbacks game was played. Many Dbacks fans know him as the Voice of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s one of the best ever to do it in the MLB. Diamondbacks fan and the team are blessed to have him. He hardly ever misses a game and makes it feel like you’re there. Even during the game, if you’re at the stadium, the team plays Greg’s coverage of the game throughout the entire concourse. Greg’s an icon for the valley and one of the most appreciated parts of the team.

Tom Candiotti: Tom is the color analyst partner for the Dbacks radio broadcast. He’s worked with Greg for years. They’ve developed a terrific partnership and ability to play off each other exceptionally well. Tom’s a former MLB pitcher for many years in the late 80’s and 90’s. He’s a well-known voice among Dbacks fans and the valley.

Mike Ferrin: Mike is the host of the pre/post game shows on the radio for the Diamondbacks. He’s also the fill-in for Greg if he ever needs a day off. Mike’s been with the team for a few years now and is well-known to Dbacks fans.

Diamondbacks have one of the best Spanish Broadcasters & a former player

Oscar Soria: Oscar has been doing the Spanish play-by-play broadcasting for the Diamondbacks since 2000. He’s been with the team since nearly the beginning. He’s known for being the Spanish voice of the Dbacks. Oscar is beloved by the Spanish-speaking players and fans. He routinely draws a large crowd at FanFest every year when he does his Q&A sessions.

Rodrigo Lopez: Rodrigo Lopez is a former MLB starting pitcher who pitched in the 2000’s before ending his career in 2012. He’s a former Diamondbacks SP who was with the team in 2010. He must’ve loved being here as soon after his playing career, he joined the Dbacks Spanish broadcast team. He’s been doing it every year since. Lopez grew up in Mexico so he is not far from home by being here too. He’s also given such a huge impact to the Spanish broadcast by including his knowledge and love of the game to it. The Dbacks and their fans are blessed to have him.
