The Diamondbacks fell to the Texas Rangers 6-3 at Surprise Stadium. While losing the game is one thing, it's another to lose a key player to injury. Outfielder Corbin Carroll had an early exit, lasting just two innings in right field and getting two at-bats before getting replaced by Jorge Barrosa in the bottom of the third.
About an hour later, the Diamondbacks provided an update on the status of Carroll.
Corbin Carroll was removed from today's game with low back tightness.

Corbin Carroll exits game with low back tightness
Any potential injury to Corbin Carroll is concerning at face value, as he's the Diamondbacks' second-best player behind Ketel Marte. His ability to hit for power and be a disruptor on the bases makes him the ideal hitter for the top third of Arizona's lineup. He is just two seasons removed from being an unanimous Rookie of the Year winner.
Carroll is in Year 3 of a eight-year, $111 million extension he signed in March 2023. He entered play hitting .600 with a 2.167 OPS and three home runs. The strong finish in 2024, followed by a hot start in spring, has fans hyped up for a potential MVP season.
MLB.com beat reporter for the Diamondbacks, Steve Gilbert, gave a positive update on Carroll's status.
Talked to @Dbacks OF Corbin Carroll. He said he wasn't overly concerned with the back tightness. Will take tomorrow off of swinging/playing, team has scheduled off day Tuesday. Doesn't feel like it's a big deal.

While Carroll believes the back tightness isn't a big deal, it will be interesting to see when he returns to the lineup. Gilbert notes that with an off day on Monday plus a team being off on Tuesday, that gives him a couple days to recuperate. It will be interesting to see if he's back in the lineup on Wednesday, when the Diamondbacks host San Francisco at Salt River Fields.
Eduardo Rodriguez sharp in spring debut
This game marked Eduardo Rodriguez's first time on the mound in 2025. It was a good outing for the veteran left-hander, who held the Rangers scoreless for two innings with a walk and a strikeout. He was spotting his fastball in the zone and using his slider and changeup off of it. At points he struggled to land the cutter but still got three called strikes.
It was a typical solid outing for Rodriguez, who figures to be the Diamondbacks' No. 4 starter when they break camp. He'll be hoping for a bounceback season in 2025 after missing much of the previous season to a shoulder injury.
The Diamondbacks host the Chicago Cubs at Salt River Fields. Corbin Burnes will make his third start of the spring while the Cubs are countering with Caleb Killian. First pitch is set for 1:10 P.M. MST. The game will be only on a radio webcast on MLB.com.
