Despite being overwhelming underdogs at the beginning of the playoffs, the Arizona Diamondbacks overcame the Phillies in Game Seven of the NLCS last night and punched their ticket to the 2023 World Series. If you ever want an example of how anything can happen in the playoffs, you can point to this young, exciting, and unafraid Diamondbacks team as proof.

Their upcoming test in the World Series is no joke, though, as the Texas Rangers also had to overcome some really good teams over on the AL side to make it to the Fall Classic including a brutal ALCS against the Astros that also went seven games and where the home team did not win a single game.

How many games are in the World Series?

The World Series, like the two league championship series, is a best of seven series with the first team to four wins winning the series. There is a strong possibility that the series will go more than four games since there have only been two sweeps since 2006, but it is possible that things could be sewn up in as few as four games.

This World Series format has been in place for decades now, although baseball did play with a strange best of nine format years ago for some reason, but that format hasn't been used since way back in 1921 when the New York Giants (who are now obviously not in New York anymore) won the series 5-3.
