Magical things tend to happen in October, and the Arizona Diamondbacks are channeling that in the NLCS.
After sweeping the Brewers and Dodgers, the D-Backs fell into a 0-2 hole and looked to be on their way out of the postseason after a 10-run loss in Game 2. That's why they budget for seven games, and the NLCS is going to use every single one to determine a winner.
While the Phillies won the final game of the series in Arizona, the Diamondbacks crushed Philly on Monday night to force a Game 7.
Merrill Kelly dominated the Phillies lineup, although he only got to see five innings of work before being pulled. He wasn't happy about it, but the Arizona bullpen was able lock things down and now the Diamondbacks are just a win away from their first World Series since 2001.
NLCS 2023: How to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks today
Arizona has only appeared in one World Series in franchise history, and won it by similary overcoming a baseball Goliath. Back in 2001 the Diamondbacks were only existed for three years and were going up against the New York Yankees at the peak of their late-90s/early-00s dynasty.
Just like with this series against the Phillies, the D-Backs weren't given much of a chance but battled to win the World Series in seven games. This wouldn't be on that level simply because of how massive that championship win was, but it would rank right alongside it as one of the best moments in franchise history.
