Yesterday, the Milwaukee Brewers took Game 2 of this three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks which set up a rubber-match on getaway day. Arizona comes in leading the NL west at 44-30 while the Brewers with their loss in Game 1 of this series relinquished their NL Central lead and now sit a half game back at 38-35. It could be tough for Milwaukee to find their way back to the top because they’re facing Zac Gallen today.
Gallen comes in at 8-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 15 starts and despite a few blowup outings has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. He will be opposed by Julio Teheran who has only made five starts for Milwaukee, but comes in with a 1.78 ERA and a record of 2-2.
Let’s get into the odds for this series finale in Milwaukee.
Diamondbacks vs. Brewers odds, run line and total
Diamondbacks vs. Brewers prediction and pick
Zac Gallen is allowed about one bad start per month and he had it back on June 11 when he allowed five runs on 10 hits to the Tigers in 5.2 innings of work. The Diamondbacks actually managed to escape with a win in that one and then last time out Gallen was great again in a bounce back performance. The Brewers are third in strikeouts in June and Gallen has a 75th percentile strikeout rate with only 19 walks all season.
Gallen has faced Milwaukee one other time back in April and went seven scoreless with 11 strikeouts just three hits and one walk. I expect a similar type of performance in this one especially with Milwaukee struggling to hit this month. The Brewers are 28th in team OPS in June at .661.
The Brewers could have a chance in this one with the way that Julio Teheran has pitched in his five starts for them, but with a 3.74 FIP which is almost exactly two runs higher than his ERA, I expect some serious regression and a big win for Arizona.
