Cy Young contender Zac Gallen takes the mound in Philadelphia Wednesday in hopes of bolstering his campaign against a formidable offense in the Phillies.

The Diamondbacks have been one of the best stories in baseball this season, firmly in the mix for the NL West and will look to also take home some hardware with Gallen's fine pitching. How should we bet this afternoon matchup between two playoff hopefuls?

First, the odds:

Diamondbacks vs. Phillies prediction and pick

The D-Backs have its stud pitcher with Gallen on the mound but also have a legitimate offense that checks in top 10 in wRC+ and slugging percentage. The team faces off against left hander Ranger Suarez, who had a great 2022, but started the year on the injured list and has looked out of sorts to start the year. He has made two starts that has spanned six innings and has allowed seven earned runs.

I also trust Gallen to limit a Phillies offense that has some pop in the lineup, but hasn't seen as much success just yet. The team is right around MLB average in terms of wRC+ and batting average and doesn't have a massive edge in terms of bullpen talent.

Gallen has been on a tear all season despite the minor setback last start against the Pirates (five earned runs in less than four innings). Before that, he had a 2.35 ERA across nine starts while allowing opponents to hit only .197 so far.

Arizona has been the better team, and Suarez is a fade until further notice. Give me the D-Backs.
