Needing a win in the worst way in Game Two of the World Series, the Arizona Diamondbacks delivered in emphatic fashion. The offense went wild, Merrill Kelly was terrific yet again, and Arizona routed the Rangers by the final score of 9-1. Just like that, the Diamondbacks stole home field advantage from the Rangers and head back home with a chance to take control of the series.

In order for that to happen, Arizona is going to rely on Game Three starter Brandon Pfaadt to continue his breakout performance during this playoff run. For the Rangers, they are sending the always dangerous Max Scherzer to the mound.

2023 World Series Game Three: How to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks today (October 30)

Despite the vast difference in name recognition, the Diamondbacks have to feel good about this pitching matchup for Game Three. Pfaadt has been extremely good in the postseason with a 2.70 ERA in four playoff starts after being decidedly less good during the regular season. Meanwhile, Scherzer has looked extremely vulnerable since his return from injury and it is likely he is going to be on a very short leash tonight.

Ultimately, Game Three is likely to come down to how well Pfaadt deals with this Rangers lineup. The way the Arizona offense is playing, they should be able to put up a few runs tonight, but Texas has the ability to keep up offensively with any team. If Pfaadt can extend his playoff dominance, Arizona should be in a great spot before the game is turned over to the bullpens. That may not mean much, though, if we see a repeat of Game One where the DBacks' bullpen imploded against Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia.
