It looked like the Arizona Diamondbacks were going to defy the odds again in Game One of the World Series. They got to Nathan Eovaldi and had a two-run lead in the ninth inning. Unfortunately, Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia had other plans and the Rangers walked it off in extra innings. One loss in a series isn't a huge deal in a vacuum, but it doesn't change how crummy it must feel in the Arizona clubhouse given how close they were to securing a series lead.

The Diamondbacks won't have much time to linger on the loss as Game Two starts right back up tonight in Arlington. Arizona will be sending Merrill Kelly, who has been nails in the postseason so far, to the mound while Texas is expected to send out Jordan Montgomery.

2023 World Series Game Two: How to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks today (October 28)

This may be the best pitching matchup in the entire World Series. While Zac Gallen had a tremendous regular season, he did fade in the second half and has looked pretty rough in the postseason. Kelly, however, has a 2.65 ERA in his three starts during the playoffs while Jordan Montgomery has been almost untouchable for the Rangers during their march through the American League side of the bracket.

While the Diamondbacks just overcame a 2-0 deficit in the NLCS to take down the Phillies in seven games, they can't afford to put themselves in that position again and hope things work out. Texas' offense just reminded everyone that they are never out of a game and having Eovaldi and Montgomery at the top of their rotation makes things very tough over the course of a seven game series. If the Diamondbacks can somehow steal this game with Montgomery on the mound, they will be in a good spot heading back to Arizona. If not, they will have to conjure some more of the magic that got them this far.
