Diamondbacks Daily Dose: More Pitching Coach Candidates Emerge

Good evening Venom Strikes readers and Arizona Diamondbacks fans! The weekend is almost here so celebrate your Friday with today’s Daily Dose!

D-backs Pitching Coach Search Continuesazcentral.com Nick Piecoro of azcentral.com is reporting that more names have surfaced as candidates to become the next pitching coach of the D-backs. The search began when the organization informed Mike Harkey that he would not be returning as a member of Chip Hale‘s staff for the 2016 season.

Minor-League pitching coordinator Dan Carlson was named a candidate earlier this week, but several other coaches from inside the organization have been interviewed.

Besides Carlson, rehab coordinator Brad Arnsberg, along with full season minor-league affiliate pitching coaches Mike Parrott (Triple-A), Wellington Cepeda (Double-A), Gil Heredia (High-A), and Doug Bochtler (Low-A) have all been announced as possible options.

The Diamondbacks have also announced the names of several external candidates including New York Yankees minor-league pitching coordinator Gil Patterson, and Oakland Athletics minor-league pitching coordinator Garvin Alston.

According to Piecoro, its unclear whether the D-backs are in on some of the veteran pitching coaches currently on the market. That group includes Mike Butcher who was fired after nine years on Mike Soscia’s staff with the Angels, the Texas Rangers Mike Maddux, and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Rick Honeycutt.

President of Baseball Operations Tony La Russa is looking for someone that checks all the boxes that Dave Duncan checked when La Russa hired him during his days as a manager.

Looking for someone like the legendary Duncan, now with the D-backs as a special assistant, isn’t a bad idea if you ask me.

The D-backs also have a bullpen coach vacancy to fill.
