Game Recap:

It’s a day that Archie Bradley won’t soon forget. Making his debut in front of tons of friends and family, the right-hander tossed six shoutout innings allowing only one out with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks in a 6-0 win over the Dodgers in front of 37,636 at Chase Field.

Bradley didn’t do it the conventional way, and was in a lot of 3 ball counts throughout the night, but when he needed to make pitches against one of the best lineups in all of baseball he did and that that was the difference.

It looked like he was composed all night long, and he really trusted Tuffy Gosewisch and the game plan all night long.

Dodgers ace Clayton didn’t fare as well allowing 6 runs 5 of them earned, and 10 hits in 6.1 innings. Kershaw has always struggled at Chase Field against the Diamondbacks, and those struggles continued tonight.

More from Venom Strikes

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense got things started off early against the southpaw. A.J. Pollock beat the shift for a leadoff single. Ender Inciarte followed that with a perfect bunt down the the third base line to put runners at first and second with nobody out.

After Paul Goldschmidt lined out, Mark Trumbo hit an RBI single to drive in Pollock and it gave the Dbacks an early 1-0 lead.

The fun against the reigning CY Young Award winner and N.L. MVP didn’t end there. In the third Pollock leadoff the inning with a single, and after Inciarte singled Paul Goldschmidt drove him in with an RBI ground out after a double steal and it was 2-0.

In the fourth, Owings walked to lead off the inning. Gosewisch than singled advancing Owings to third. After Bradley popped up, Pollock singled scoring Owings and that made it 3-0.  Inciarte followed that with an RBI groundout and it was 4-0.

The final dagger came in the 7th when Goldschmidt hit a two run homer and it was 6-0. That chased Kershaw from the game.

The bullpen once again did it’s job, and the defense was amazing. Bradley had the best outing of any Dbacks starter so far this season. He actually went more than 5 innings which was huge.

Next: Scouting the Enemy: The Dodgers

Couldn’t have asked for a better debut: The Diamondbacks honestly couldn’t have asked for anything more from Bradley tonight. He was razor sharp besides the four walks that he worked around. He was constantly hitting the outside corner, and looked so composed. This kid is going to fun to watch for years to come.

Brad Ziegler is a workhorse: Brad Ziegler is closing in on the most appearances ever by a Diamondbacks reliever, and it never gets old watching him pitch. He is going to have an amazing year this year especially with the infield defense that the Diamondbacks have.

Top of the Order: The top of the order certainly got it done tonight. Pollock and Inciarte combined to go 5 for 7. They constantly put pressure on Kershaw with their speed, and set up the big guys in the middle. That has to happen consistently if the Diamondbacks are going to win.
